The Peshmal Schists are the basal quartz-bearing volcaniclastic sediments of the Jaglot Group in Swat (local name of Sullivan et al. 1993), indicating a subaerial quartz-rich terrigenous source; they preserve well-developed graded bedding and have a calc-alkaline arc-type provenance, recording the earliest stages of Jaglot back-arc basin growth.
