Synonyms
Not recorded

A young (Pleistocene) gravel-and-mud molasse of the Siahan–Makran area, the same as the Kech Formation.

Kamerod formation is derived from Kamerod on the northern margin of the Siahan range (31M/10). The lithology and description is same as Kech formation. Subrecent and Recent deposits consist of unconsolidated gravel, sand, silt and clay. 5

Band colour = period; texture = dominant rock type. Lines between bands mark the contact type; dotted = no contact recorded in the sources (not a claim of conformity). True scale makes height ∝ recorded thickness; hatched = thickness not recorded. Ages approximate, for ordering.

Remarks

A Pleistocene post-orogenic molasse of the Siahan/Makran region, equivalent to the Kech Formation; its angular unconformity over Eocene–Oligocene strata records the late uplift and folding of the Makran wedge.

Name & nomenclature (1)

  • Shah (2009) uses 'Kamerod' only as the principal reference section of the Bostan Formation. Kept separate here: our Kamerod Formation (Malkani) is a fluvial conglomerate/sandstone of Chagai, lithologically unlike Shah's lacustrine gypsiferous Bostan - a name/concept collision, not a synonym.

    Shah, S.M.I. (2009)

Age & correlation (1)

  • Kazmi & Jan (1997): the Kamerod Formation (Pleistocene; near Saindak Fort, Chagai) is near-horizontal young basinal beds intruded by small quartz-diorite bodies and fresh olivine-basalt/lamprophyre dykes.

    Kazmi, A.H. & Jan, M.Q. (1997)

Lithology (1)

  • Second Malkani reference (2020, same author - not independent): the Kamerod Formation (Kamerod, N margin of the Siahan range, 31 M/10) is fluvial-lacustrine conglomerate, mudstone and sandstone, Pleistocene; lithologically the same as the Kech Formation.

    Malkani, M.S. (2020)
