- Synonyms
- Chak Jabbi Formation
A fine-grained Triassic limestone of the Kalachitta and Hazara hills, sitting between the Mianwali and Kingriali formations.
The Chak Jabbi Limestone of Fatmi (1972) is a lateral variation of the Kingriali Formation and is now regarded as a junior synonym of it. The Kingriali (originally the Kingriali dolomite, named after Kingriali peak in the Khisor Range by Gee (1945) and later amended to Kingriali Formation) consists of dolomite, limestone, dolomitic limestone, marl, sandstone and shale. Anwar et al. (1992) divided it into two members: the lower Doya (sandstone, dolomite and minor shale) and the upper Vanjari (mainly dolomite). Some brachiopods, bivalves and crinoidal remains are reported. Age Late Triassic.

Contacts
Band colour = period; texture = dominant rock type. Lines between bands mark the contact type; dotted = no contact recorded in the sources (not a claim of conformity). True scale makes height ∝ recorded thickness; hatched = thickness not recorded. Ages approximate, for ordering.

Economic significance
Raw material for cement; mined in the lowest beds exposed east of the Hattar Cement Factory.
Remarks
A Triassic shallow-marine sublithographic limestone of the Upper Indus Basin, conformably overlying the Mianwali Formation and grading up into the Kingriali Formation; it occupies a stratigraphic position equivalent to the Tredian Formation and is largely unfossiliferous.

Age & correlation (1)
-
Middle Triassic (Anisian-Ladinian) assigned on stratigraphic position between the Mianwali and Kingriali formations; correlative with the Tredian Formation of the Salt Range.

Type locality & location (1)
-
Type locality corrected from 'Kingriali peak in Khisor' to the Kalachitta Range (near Bagh village, Kohat-Margala Province) per Fatmi (1972) / Indian Plate Lexicon; the Khisor Range attribution was in error.
