Type locality: Northeast side of the Shigar Valley (Daltumbore–Skoro Lungma area), Baltistan, northern Pakistan.

Lithology: Interbedded clastic and carbonate metasediments — shales, limestones and conglomerates passing along strike into slates, marbles and garnet-biotite schists as metamorphic grade increases northwestward.

A Paleozoic succession of interbedded clastic and carbonate metasediments forming the Asian-plate (Karakoram) side of the Northern Suture on the northeast side of the Shigar Valley, Baltistan. Defined by Hanson (1989), it is faulted southwest along the Northern Suture over the Cretaceous Bauma-Harel Formation of the Ladakh-Kohistan arc, and subsumes the former Skoro Lungma Slates, Daltumbore Micaschists and Askore Amphibolites of Desio and Zanettin.

Remarks

The Asian-plate (Karakoram) footwall of the Northern Suture (Main Karakoram Thrust) in the Shigar Valley; its Paleozoic shelf-type carbonates and clastics are thrust southwest over the Cretaceous arc rocks of the Bauma-Harel Formation. Metamorphic isograds cut by the suture show that metamorphism predated suturing (Hanson 1989).
