FULL TEXT REVIEWED (reviewer-supplied PDF, USGS Prof. Paper 1599). The authoritative USGS-GSP monograph on the lower Eocene Ghazij Formation of Balochistan: exposed ~750 km along the western margin of the Axial Belt; deltaic to alluvial-plain depositional environments; hosts the principal Eocene coal fields (Mach, Sor Range, Pir Ismail Ziarat, Johan). NOMENCLATURE: this monograph treats Ghazij as a FORMATION throughout ('Ghazij Formation' used 183x vs 'Ghazij Group' 1x), subdivided into three informal vertical parts (Lower, Middle, Upper) proposed for formal member recognition, plus the named Marap Conglomerate Member (redefined by Shah 1977) and Meting Limestone Member; conglomerate and evaporite facies are mapped. This Balochistan/Kirthar 'Formation' usage differs from the Sulaiman 'Ghazij Group' scheme (Shah) and is directly relevant to the reviewer's Formation-vs-Group rank question.
