FULL TEXT REVIEWED (born-digital, open access CC-BY). Detrital-zircon U-Pb provenance study of the Baraul Banda Formation, the sedimentary component of the Dir Group (western Kohistan-Ladakh Arc; the group is a 10-15 km-wide E-W belt ~120 km between Kalam and Dir). Baraul Banda Formation: fine-grained deep-marine siliciclastic succession (slate, mudstone, siltstone, fine sandstone, minor fossiliferous limestone; basal conglomerate/breccia 2-32 m; quartzite present; low-grade chlorite-sericite metamorphism); three lithofacies after Sullivan et al. (basal conglomerate/breccia, pebbly sandstone, thin-bedded sst-slt-mud). Lower contact an unconformity on the Mankial Metavolcanics; upper contact the Dir Thrust, along which the Utror Volcanic Formation is emplaced over it. Late Paleocene-Early Eocene: detrital-zircon maximum depositional ages 62-55 Ma; Nummulites-Discocyclina-Actinocyclina in limestone at Shahi (Dir) indicate Early Eocene for part of the succession. Supports adding the Baraul Banda Formation (Kohistan/Dir Group). Unit first defined by Sullivan, Windley, Saunders, Haynes & Rex (Dir Group palaeogeographic reconstruction).
This page is the reverse of each unit's per-field citations — it shows exactly what this reference supports, making the dataset's “no source, no fact” rule browsable both ways.

- Age: Qasim (2026): detrital-zircon U-Pb of the Baraul Banda Formation (Dir Group sedimentary member) gives maximum depositional ages of 62–55 Ma; Nummulites-Discocyclina-Actinocyclina at Shahi (Dir) indicate Early Eocene for part of the succession — Late Paleocene-Early Eocene overall. Lower contact an unconformity on the Mankial Metavolcanics; upper contact the Dir Thrust with the Utror Volcanic Formation emplaced over it.
