- Lithology: Qasim et al. (2014), Sherwan area west of Abbottabad: they subdivided the Early Cambrian Abbottabad Formation into three members — a lower arenaceous unit (dominantly quartzite with subordinate pebbly conglomerate, sandstone and siltstone; composite ~600 m), a middle dolomitic unit (dominantly dolomite ~400-500 m, with ~200-300 m of quartzite, siltstone and conglomerate), and an upper quartzite unit (minimum ~550 m, the 'Upper Quartzite' of Calkins et al.). All three occur only at Sherwan; only the lower two are present at Soban Gali and Sirban Hill, and only the upper two at Swabi in the Peshawar basin.
- Age: Qasim et al. (2014): they correlated the Abbottabad Formation's dolomite member with Latif's (1972) Sirban Formation (~600 m) and with the Jutana Formation of the Salt Range, and suggested that the upper quartzite member may equate to the Misri Banda Quartzite of the Peshawar basin — Ordovician by palaeontology but ~525 Ma by youngest detrital zircon — implying diachronous Cambrian-Ordovician quartzite deposition across the NW Himalaya.

- Age: Qasim et al. (2014): the Misri Banda Quartzite of the Peshawar basin — Ordovician by palaeontology but ~525 Ma by youngest detrital zircon — is lithologically similar to, and a possible equivalent of, the upper quartzite member of the Abbottabad Formation in the Sherwan (Hazara) area.
