Reviewer-supplied open access. Petrography and geochemistry of dolostone-hosted soapstone (talc) in the Sherwan Formation, Hazara Basin (Sherwan area, Abbottabad; Khandakhu Mine). The dolomite is Late Carboniferous (alga Anthracoporella spectabilis); the soapstone (talc/steatite with brucite, magnesite, willemseite, montmorillonite, pyrite, hematite) formed by Permian hydrothermal / dynamic (greenschist-facies) metamorphic alteration of the dolomite along faults and folds, linked to Pre-Himalayan tectonics. Addresses the long-standing controversy over the age of the Sherwan Formation.
