Full text reviewed (user-supplied PDF; Geol. Rundsch. 85:683-704, DOI 10.1007/BF02440105). The foundational 1992 Italian-expedition reconnaissance of the Northern Sedimentary Belt (NSB) of the northern Karakorum from Chitral to Karambar: axial batholith (3 plutons) + three NSB thrust-stack tectonostratigraphic units, with a crystalline basement transgressed by an Early Ordovician marine succession up to the Cretaceous Reshun Conglomerate. Introduces the Baroghil Group (Yarkhun + Vidiakot fms) and the Chilmarabad Formation, and names the Gharil, Lashkargaz, Ailak and Gircha formations of the Permian-Triassic Chapursan sequence. Its unit-level content is superseded by, and already integrated via, the authors' later full-text papers (Gaetani 2004 Carboniferous, 2008 Devonian, Zanchi & Gaetani 2011, Gaetani et al. 2013 Facies) and Talent et al. (1999); this record's verification is upgraded to full-text and the full author list completed, but no unit deltas are added to avoid duplicating those newer sources. (All 12 units it names - Yarkhun, Vidiakot, Chilmarabad, Shogram, Gharil, Lashkargaz, Ailak, Gircha, Misgar, Reshun, Darkot, Chapursan - already carry richer, later-source content.)
This page is the reverse of each unit's per-field citations — it shows exactly what this reference supports, making the dataset's “no source, no fact” rule browsable both ways.

- Age: AGE CONFLICT: Gaetani et al. (1996) report Early Devonian (early Emsian) conodont horizons in the Lun Shale of the Reshun-Tirich Mir belt, whereas the dataset lists Permian-Triassic. Unit corroborated; the age needs review (the Tirich Mir report also speculates Permian-Jurassic). Literature-search-derived.
-
- Age: CONFIRMED against Zanchi & Gaetani (2011, full text, Fig. 19): the Vidiakot Formation (~500 m in the Axial sheet) is Ordovician (above the Yarkhun Fm, Baroghil Group), black splintery shales/siltstones with recrystallized dolostone. Corroborates the Ordovician age.
-
- Lithology: CONFIRMED against Zanchi & Gaetani (2011, full text, Fig. 19): the Yarkhun Formation (~170 m) is the basal unit of the Baroghil Group and sits at the LOWER ORDOVICIAN level of the North Karakoram Terrain correlation chart. The dataset lists Silurian — this should be corrected to (Lower) Ordovician (author to confirm).
