Facies and sequence stratigraphy of the Jurassic on the northern Indian-plate shelf, Surghar Range. The Shinawari and Samana Suk formations are shallow-marine to intertidal, deposited Toarcian to middle Callovian; a lower-Toarcian transgression drowned a former delta plain, with shallowing-upward cycles and relative lowstands in the Bajocian, Bathonian and Callovian (the lower two with terrigenous influx from the SE). A lower-Callovian hardground is overlain by transgressive middle-Callovian open-marine limestone; the platform closes with another hardground, drowned by the overlying Oxfordian-Neocomian Chichali Formation. Nomenclature (after Fatmi 1974; Mensink et al. 1988): the Jurassic comprises the Baroch Group and part of the Surghar Group (Chichali + Lumshiwal), above the Triassic Musa Khel Group; Datta dated by palynology (early Jurassic, Masood & Bhutta 1985), Shinawari basal part carrying Bouleiceras cf. nitecens (Fatmi et al. 1990).
This page is the reverse of each unit's per-field citations — it shows exactly what this reference supports, making the dataset's “no source, no fact” rule browsable both ways.

- Geological significance: Ahmed et al. (1997), Surghar Range: the Oxfordian-Neocomian Chichali Formation (glauconitic deeper-shelf deposits; part of the Surghar Group with the overlying Lumshiwal) records the drowning of the Jurassic carbonate platform whose top is marked by a hardground.
-
- Depositional environment: Ahmed et al. (1997), Surghar Range: the Datta Formation is dated by palynology as early Jurassic (Masood & Bhutta 1985) and represents a delta-plain that was drowned by a lower-Toarcian marine transgression at the base of the overlying Jurassic shelf carbonates.

- Depositional environment: Ahmed et al. (1997), Surghar Range: the Samana Suk Formation is a shallow-marine shelf carbonate deposited to the middle Callovian, with shallowing-upward cycles and relative sea-level lowstands in the Bajocian, Bathonian and Callovian; a lower-Callovian hardground is overlain by transgressive middle-Callovian open-marine limestone and the platform closes with another hardground.

- Age: Ahmed, Mertmann & Manutsoglu (1997), Surghar Range: the Shinawari Formation is shallow-marine to intertidal, deposited (with the Samana Suk) from the Toarcian to the middle Callovian; its basal part carries the ammonite Bouleiceras cf. nitecens (Fatmi et al. 1990), and it belongs to the Baroch Group.
